News and Special Announcements for Bostonians and their Adopted People

IT'S ALWAYS YELLOW JACKET, WASP and BEE TIME!!!

When yellow jackets and other nasty bugs become particularly mean and many Bostonians (as well as Boxers and other short snouted dogs) are often very badly affected by a sting. If your pooche shows bad facial swelling, especially around his or her muzzle, redness and/or appears to be scratching at or biting at it's feet, you must move very quickly or the results could be very, very bad.

Don't take ANY chances!

Our advice (unless you're sure you know what you're doing) is to get the dog to the vet ASAP!! You can also ask your vet now about keeping some Benadryl (or the less expensive generic version Diphenhydramine HCl in 25 mg caps) handy in the case of an emergency.

If we see any indication of a yellow jacket sting, e.g., rapidly swelling muzzle and face (like in the pics below), licking feet, etc, we give the dog ONE caplet in a piece of cheese immediately and start watching it carefully, planning a trip to the vet if there's no quick improvement, but you need to be talking to your own vet now.

Uncle Joe,

Yes you got it, this is a dog talking! Life is great where I live now.

Mom renamed me Mannie after Manfred Mann (you know, the band?). I love my new home, I am so glad you let me come here! My days consist of napping on the couch with my head in Mom's lap and most of all scrubbing my back on the floor! Oh yeah, eating is a biggie too!

My brother Jackson; the almighty Shih Zhu has finally figured out that I am not leaving! Most of the time we get along well. He's still  grumpy at times and most of all jealous because he is a want to be Boston! Ha! My favorite game is to chase Jackson while he is running to fetch his toy that Mom has thrown. Boy does he hate that!

I have the most awesome cousins in the world and I love for them to come and play. Chloe she is very sweet Yorkie. And Jake,well... he's a Yorkie who is excited to see me but then likes to settle with his toys(no sharing there!). I've sent their picture so you can see my buddies.

Mom is sending several pictures so you can see I'm still a handsome guy (even with a few extra pounds)! As soon as the weather gets a little cooler, Mom and I are going to start taking longer walks so I can get my suave physique back!

Tell all of my "Boston" friends I said HEY! Hope to send more pictures later this year! Hope you are doing well! Take care!

Mannie (formally Herschel)

We lost “Freeway “ on  Friday Sept 3.  About 2 years ago we got her from a shelter South of Atlanta. She had been picked  off  the median of, I-75, hence the name.

She stayed at Boston farms until January ’10, got her through the nasty heartworm treatment, and we thought she had made it upon an adoption.

About a month ago her family was very troubled by her neck problems and her defensive nature against their other Boston. We brought her back for care and observation, as a permanent ranch hand.

It turns out she had some major neck vertebrae separation, muscle spasms and was developing seizures.  Why, we don't know.

There was really no way out and pain meds, prednisone, and cage rest only helped a bit.

She flew away on the wings of a Gran Mal , suffering no longer.

We have some new pics of Sissy Sidney Jane, the previously "little bad girl" who drove the other kids nuts.   ;-)

The baby has changed, and she's daddy and mommy's little girl.   Looks like she's home for sure.

Hi Joe,

Just wanted you to know how hard they are working me here. I had to supervise my mama puttering in the garden all morning. As you can see from the evidence, supervisory work is so tough I had to kick back in the porch rocker.

Suzanne's Dewey aptly demonstrates how to catch a fly in mid air.

The fly has zero chance.

Carissa sent us some pics of her child, Lady down in Athens, TN.    Isn't she a little cutie?

joe

Mike sent us a pic of Gert and Gogo chillin'

That's Gertie to the left and she's fitting in very nicely.   Still has a little "food thingy" tho.

Jill sent us some new pics of their family, Blue, Scheyer, JJ, and Duhon playing in the yard with mom.

“Brady Boy Two” came to us in September of 2009, a result of a military deployment. He was born in Jan 2009, and has exhibited every trait of an energetic Boston. He spent more time than we would have liked to have seen, in a crate here at Boston Farms.

Brady has at long last found a home with a boy and girl of just the perfect ages, and while he played (sometimes TOO much) with the other doggies here; he was really seeking a family, and was waiting patiently to be showered with individual attention.

They got ‘em  a perfect pet ; still of “puppy antics yet; house and cage trained and a ready to go.

Like so many other of our “: beautiful butterflies”; if you love them; then when given a chance, you must set them free. .., and that we did.

Mollie one of our long time ranch hands is missing him, as they made a very playful pair. Perhaps one wonders if Mollies turn is next?

“Rescue is like a box of chocolates”.., as our friend Mr. Gump says.

Little Bentley Cole Bruce has been adopted and this cute little kid is living with foster parents and now real parents, Travis and Ashley in Crawfordville, Florida in the land of sunshine.

We're hoping for some new pics soon of this little kid.

We're very pleased to announce that Miss Sissy (Sidney) Jane has been adopted and has moved home with her new parents, Walt and Jean.

Sissy will be attending school for a few days, no surprise to anybody who knows this kid.   Walt says she still loves the water, and the water hose of course.    We'll be hoping for some new pics soon.

Everybody misses this kid, especially Charlie.

Grandpa had a 15th birthday August 1st at the Sanctuary.   Marlana said it was typically WILD.

She sent a few pix of the excitement.   Good night, Grandpa.    ;-)

We received some sad news........

Tiger was adopted nearly 6 years ago and a part of Lacey's family.   Lacey said:

Hi, Joe.  I adopted a dog from you 6 years ago.  Her name was Daisy Lynn and we renamed her Tiger.  She was the love of my life.  She passed two weeks ago.  We are not sure what happened.  She was very healthy and happy.  Our dog, Munky has been almost as depressed as we have been.............

I remember this little angel very well.   She's getting her wings.

This is Sparky Barky (although she's not much of a barker).   Pilot Jon, Spark and her big sister Gertie had a weekend airplane ride from Knoxville and now Sparky is in her new home and Gertrude is being fostered at Mike's house.    More pics on that in a bit.

Sparky's new momma Kim says she's a good, sweet little girl.   Yes, she is.

Chloe Cobb was adopted by her temporary foster mom, Beverly Butler, who helped save her from certain death at the shelter in Columbia County, GA. Chloe was scared and growling at people.

Even Beverly was scared of her the first day. By the second day, Chloe was bouncing around kissing the other dogs and Beverly. By the third day, Beverly wanted to adopt her. She had fallen in love.

Renee though a picture of Bocephus might be nice, all dressed up for prom night

(It's a little hard to tell if he's happy or just used to being dressed up and putting up with it.   ;-)    )

That's his bud Ellie the Saint next to him.

Here's a couple pics of the Nichols family, Grace and Buddy in the back yard and our course their proud momma.

That's Buddy next to the ball, of course, Jeff's main man.

Mr. Special

We have some new pics of Blue Dog Marshall and his family.    Lot's of excitement and a not unexpected father and son "talk" about something.

Pretty innocent looking, huh?

We're saddened to learn of the passing of Angel Marie Allin of Knoxville.   Complications of epilepsy.

She's got her own set of wings now.

Always the camera shy Billy Kid, his daddy Jim has sent us a couple new pics of one of the park walks.

Billy has blossomed (and picked up a couple pounds)      ;-)

Well, for some of us "older" folks, nobody misses the importance of a little bitty nap and that's not lost on Mr. Bruno Harley and his foster daddy either.

If you look very closely,  you'll see the evidence of a teeny weenie little tail which makes Bruno a special Boston Terrier.   He loves his momma Margaret too but Bruno HATES GRASS.  Just HATES IT !!!!

Grandpa (Xavier Grey officially) had a birthday and Grandpa got a new pair of sun glasses.   Grandpa lives at our Sanctuary in Virginia with a bunch of old folks and one pup who keeps them hopping.

Sorta.

Joe,

Just wanted to let you know we lost Amber this morning. She had been put on pred for a possible brain tumor or inflammation somewhere and it seem to be working great for about a month. She had become a new dog! But this morning we were woke up to her having a seizure and she just wouldn't come out of it.

The pred was the last ditch effort to help her out, the special diet had done nothing for her. I want to thank you for letting me have her for the last few months. She was a joy to have around, a very special girl, and as always a piece of my heart goes with them as I have to let them go.

Michelle

Bob said:

"Like his cousins, Wendell is learning to enjoy the nautical world by sitting on the pontoon boat to familiarize himself with it before going out.  He was absolutely fascinated by the water.

More shots will follow when he actually goes out with us and his cousins.
We have to get him a life vest like the other boys."

Mr. Duhon (aka Keegan Magoo) has a new brother and sister, Charlie (now Scheyer) and Chloe (now JJ) along with the rest of the family there in Swannanoa, NC.

Here are some family pics and the last addition, Mr. Blue Dog Marshall at the bottom  :-)

Marj wanted us to know that she lost one of our old folks, Anna Nana Bananna last week.  It's been a hard week.

My kids grew up with Weenie dogs, I know it hurts.

We have a new pic of Miss Kitty Kat from her momma Linda Kat.

Mister Budward Dyer Raibley left us this morning, very early.   He'd been left at a shelter shelter in West Tennessee, leftover from a loser going to jail on drug charges.   It was evident that he'd not been loved or cared for in years, rather he'd been exposed to hard drugs and he had cancer.

We bought some time for this little guy, first in Corinth, MS with his foster momma Janet and then here after both an airplane ride and a bus ride.   Budward loved to ride like all Bostonians.

I'm sure Harvey and a host of other Bostonians met him at the Bridge.  I know he's missed here.

Our beautiful boy - Harvey Feinstein Euler crossed the Rainbow Bridge in the early morning of Tuesday, 27 July. He had several epileptic seizures, went into a coma, and died peacefully at home.

Found in a parking lot in Chattanooga, TN and spending months in rescue - Harvey acquired his "forever" home in April 2008. Though he was often distracted and unfocused due to his daily meds - that would change in an instant when it was dinner time or snack time. Like many of us, Harvey had his own pill box and in January 2010, he acquired a second box due to being diagnosed with Cushings Disease. From Nov 09 until May 10, he led a seizure-free life, but they had started again in June.

In his 28 months with us, he went on vacation, met Santa, was a 2009 and 2010 Mardi Gras Duke and float rider, and was an experienced hurricane veteran. For 10 days in July, Bill, Rebel, and Magoo were in NC, so Harvey experienced life as an "only child".  A few of those days, he attended doggie day camp during the day-where he enjoyed his own air-conditioned room, complete with tv, doggie bed and linens and play time with other day campers.

Even at the end, Harvey kept to his routine - his seizures occurred in the wee hours of the morning, many times during a full moon phase. He crossed over between midnight and 2 am. Under the full moon, his dad made his casket and with his blanket, his bumper pad (which we kept inside his crate so he would not hurt himself during a seizure) and his plastic keys toy, he was laid to rest at his favorite "sunning" spot in the backyard. His best buddy (Magoo) watched over him to the very end.  Harvey must be amazed to have a new spirit which is seizure and med free.

Bill and I are grateful to East Tennessee Boston Terrier Rescue for saving and taking care of this special boy until he found his own home. If you are looking for a pet - whether it be a dog or a cat, etc - do not overlook the "special needs" children of rescue/shelter groups.  It can be difficult and trying at times, but the joy and love you gain in return is worth it.

We have a new pic of Mr. Special Dewey, aka Dwight Lee taken last month.

(His momma Suzanne luvs him of course........)

Ardy's kids have discovered the "bop mobile" for feeding time.

"Your dogs getting cabin fever from not being able to be outside because of the heat and the rain?  I have found what we call the Bop-Mobile for the evening meal.  We just fill it with their regular dry dog food but they seem to have so much more fun when they have to work for it...and we laugh like crazy watching them.  Little Katie gets so excited that sometimes she bops brother Major in the head!"

Take a look..............    :-)

We're very happy to announce that Mr. Brady Bruce has been adopted and has moved to the Palm Beach Gardens area with his new family.   We have a few pics and hope for more soon.

We're delighted to announce that Mr. Sammy Dallas has been adopted and has moved his small self to Smyrna, GA.    We're very happy for this little guy and his foster momma Renee is going to send along a few more words.

Wonder if Sammy is going into broadcasting??

Renee said -

"One crate $48, 788 miles of travel $243 in gas, one forever home.... priceless."

"Sammy is a tall, dark, and handsome young Boston who loves to play.  He loves carrots, playing tug of war and chasing other Bostons around the house.  He definitely does not like  big dogs and thinks that he is at least as big as any saint bernard.  Despite all of his fun antics and Boston disposition, Sammy had quite an adventure in finding his forever home. After being surrendered by his original family, fostered, a failed placement in KY, fostered again, he ended up with the perfect forever home.   He's loving life as the only four legged member of the family and couldn't love the undivided attention any more! "

Boston World is saddened to note the passing of Sarah Beth Cooper, one of Austin's little old Boston ladies.

We all feel the pain.

A new pic from the new Wendell Holms extended family with Wendell's little brothers Zig Zag, Robin and Batman (the far right and not so happy).   Wendell is the far left.

Batman's still not sure about all of this.

LOOK MOM, it's ME AND TRIXIE  !!!!!!!!!!

Well, sometimes Mister Satch just likes to sit on Daddy's 4 wheeler.........

He's a special little guy, his momma Kay says so, so we know that's true.   ;-)

We're very proud and pleased to announce that Misty Lynne has joined her brothers Moe and Jack and is now living happily in the Crossville area.

Misty is the pretty dainty little girl on the right.  Moe is the rather plump Boston on the left, left pic and Jack is just being cool.

Our policy is not to adopt to families with small children.   There's a very good reason for that, part because of the risk to children , part of it because of the risk to the Boston kids, part of it liability.

Once is a very long while, a special dog comes around, and a special family.   Topper waits for his kids and his forever family at the bridge.

I think about him, and them, often.  joe

We have a couple new pics of Miss Kitty Kat.    Wonder why her name is "Kitty Kat?"  Just guess......

Her momma is very proud of her of course..

Wendell Holms is a special little guy and I'm very fond of him.   He's found his forever home with a family that we trust implicitly, with three brothers, one of which came from Boston Terrier Rescue of East TN as well.

From his Uncle Bob ~

Well, after making friends with our 3 boys and generally endearing himself to us, Wendall has moved in with his new mommy.  Here is Charito holding the little bugger and he is smiling his usual  "Aren't I cute" smile.  He is a special, and smart little guy!  More updates as things evolve, stay tuned........B.

On the left, momma, on the right pic is Wendell and Batman.   Batman is keeping a weary eye on Mr. Wendell

Boss seems quite pleased with his new place.  I think the hour-long car ride and trip to PetsMart helped him out a little bit.  He decided to hide for the first hour or so once we got home, but I gave him some cold-cuts chicken by hand and he started warming up a bit.  Then we went on a long walk and he had a great time.

He's been a really good boy too.  I let him do his own thing and just sat down and watched a little tv.  After a little while he came bouncing around wanting to play tug-of-war with his toys again and he jumped up and sat on the couch with me when he was done and took a nap, resting his head on my leg.

Thanks again so much for bringing the two of us together.  I think he's going to be really happy with me.  I keep telling him how happy he's making me and I think he understands what I'm saying because he perks his head up and give me a look like, "well, of course... duh!"  I look forward to talking to you this evening.

Marshall

Miss Missy Bruce was adopted over the weekend and we're delighted that she's going to be staying in Tallahassee.

It was Missy's new momma Elayne who said to Sue "WE WANT HER" but we understand she's already Daddy's little girl.

We are delighted to announce that Precious Penelope has been adopted and this pretty little lady has moved to Savannah GA and now lives on an inland.   We're hoping to hear something soon about new pics, etc.

Better late than never, Hope everything is good with you and the gang.

Poke had a big week, he almost caught a rabbit, chased a deer out of the yard and this morning Debbie saw him running up and down the fence line with a fawn.  She tried to get a picture but the fawn went into the woods when it saw her.

I think the birds are teasing him, they fly low from tree to tree with him
chasing them. He is getting plenty of exercise.  ~ Mike

Duhon takes a little nap with Daddy

Joe,

Check out the attached picture of Billy Kid sleeping.  Billy
sleeps like a person.  Boy it sure is hot and humid here.
Billy's walks are much shorter these days.  Billy
says hi to all of his friends!  - Jim

Dixie Bell and Rocky mix it up a little at the Seago house.

Ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch...................ouch, ouch.........

Here's a bunch of pics from the Dinker Hollow crowd over near Unicoe, TN.

The place has sorta................ gone to the dogs.

Walter Dinker, Toby Man, Morgan Seymour, Billy and Bugsy.   The bald headed old dog is Tim.

;-)

This is little Miss Megan Anne Fly McKnight, our very first rescue dog from seven years ago.   She lives in Spruce Pine NC with her momma Ethel and a very happy family.   The pics are from Ethel's friend, Angelica.

She is very, very special.  joe

We're pleased to announce that Miss Ginger Leigh and Mr. Rocky Raccoon have decided to just stay at Donna's house and join her crew right there in Cartersville.

Probably just as well, Rocky's never quite gotten over his habit of biting everybody but Donna.   He's the bad, bad dog on the left.   ;-)

I lost Bingo Bingo tonight, probably as a result of renal failure and
old age. He just faded away.

Bingo was probably the last of the old KY BTR foster dogs and was Brenda's
Boston before her illness became a problem. He came here and
flourished, one of the "old grandfather dogs" that pretty much slept
most of the time and in his case, ate fair amount of my deck like a
beaver when he was upset. Bingo had a little separation anxiety but we
managed thru it.

The rest of the kids are very quiet tonight. Bingo Bingo, like so many
others is now waiting patiently for me.

joe

Here is a picture of my new rescued Boston, Bama Belle.  She has turned out to be a great little dog.  Perfect for us.  Loves being spoiled and adores Nick.  She snores like a truck driver and sounds like a little pig when she is nosing around in the yard.

We took her on vacation in the RV with us this summer and it was like she has been  an RVing dog  all her life.  No problem at all.  She knows, "sit," "stay," "roll over" and how to play dead when you "shoot" her and say bang, bang...  Very smart little lady. She loves everyone (typical Boston), but would chase my feral kitties out in the yard if she could get to them.

She is pretty chunky and I'm trying to get some weight off her.  She was born Jan. of 2005.  You can see from the picture that she is missing her right eye, but it doesn't slow her down a bit.  I think she is a real beauty!

 Betty Sue Jones

A real beauty ~ indeed she is.  joe

Hi Joe,
I couldn't resist sending these pictures to you -- Wendell Leo is such a handsome boy! He's sleeping beside me as I type (sleeping is definitely his 2nd favorite past time, eating being his first). My sister took these pictures on our front porch :-)
I slipped at work two weeks ago and dislocated my knee cap (serious ouch) so Wendell and I have been spending A LOT of time together -- sleeping, playing Sudoku (he's good at that lol) and watching movies. I'm back to half days at work but I spend my evenings with my leg propped up and he's happy to be my little nurse. He like to compulsively lick my leg (or arm, or forehead). I think he's just telling me to feel better soon lol
My parents and I hired an animal communicator to come spend some time with us to work with the pack. It's been a week since her last visit and since we've employed her suggestions, things have been much better! We weren't having much of a problem to begin with, but Abbey wants to be dominant and Maisy wants to be annoying lol. Things have improved, for sure. :-)
I hope you and the gang are doing well!
Take care :-)
Olivia

We miss this little guy here.   Yes, eating is #1 for him, that hasn't changed.   joe

Prissy and Layla have found a new toy in Janet's back yard.   My goodness, what could it be?

(Maggie's playing with the kong - a toy with a toy)

Wellllllllllllllll, it's Batman and Robin and Zigzag Olds.

Say HI boys !!!

This is Joy Darling.   She's the little old lady from Orlando, FL that we pulled last week.  Her future didn't look good there.

She was getting stronger, eyes getting better.   She passed away in her sleep Sunday and her foster mom thinks it was a heart attack.   She was a happy little old lady, feeling really good and now she's finally home.

Her momma said: "Joy crossed the Rainbow Bridge last night.  I am so sorry.  I buried her in our family pet cemetery where there are wind chimes and a lantern that is always light for them."

Mr. Smitty Bojangles is now officially Rhody Smitty Bojangles and we have a couple new pics of that little kid.

Rhody is doing much better. He has completely finished his antibiotics as of tonight, is eating dry food, and seems to be adjusting well. He has really become part of the family, and we feel so lucky to have him. We found out that he really likes kids, so he is going to a summer camp for autistic kids on Thursday. If everything works out and he enjoys himself, we are thinking about working on getting him certified to become a therapy dog. :)

Heather and Tim did a Critterfest in Maryville, TN this past week and we have a few great pics of the event.

"We have three more events in the upcoming months in three separate venues.  I will be making bandannas and treats to sell and all proceeds go to the rescue."  Heather

I just had to share this with you guys…We took li’l Louie to GA this past weekend to visit my parents and I have to say that he’s just the most perfect travelling companion!

My mom has a rare type of dementia and is now pretty much bed-ridden. She hasn’t spoken or made a noise in over a year…until Louis climbed up on her the other day and licked her face!!

She literally laughed out loud!! That made all the waiting to get the right little guy worth every second, times 10!!!! My Dad actually tried to hide Louis when we were leaving, in the hopes that we would just go without him! He’s definitely a big hit with all our family.

Cheers, Jennifer

Things are pretty quiet at the Sanctuary in Coeburn, VA.  Grandpa is taking a little nap and all the other kids are piled up here or there, or somewhere.

There's a pup running around though and for a bunch of old folks, that can keep you sleeping with one eye open, all the time.

Oliver and Leigh Anne take to the woods..............

We're all very saddened to hear from Ron of the passing last week of Muffy Williams, Festus William's precious little girl.

Festus took impeccable care of Muffy and now Muffy is looking after Festus.

We're very pleased to announce (although a little slow, sorry) the adoption of Mr. Jeffy McCord, aka Louie, Lou, Louis.....

"Hey there, Joe. I keep meaning to send you & Donna a pic of Jeffy/Shoeshine and his new family, but the little guy won’t stay still with our other dog long enough yet to get a good one! They’re hilarious together! At any rate, I just wanted to update you and thank you.

Jeffy (now Louis/Louie/Lou…take your pick) seems extremely happy, as are we!! We can hardly stay away from the little guy!!! We’re going to need to brush him up on crate-training, as he’s not doing too well with that so far. (Our fault for letting him sleep in the bed with us on the first night!) His flea medication must’ve been due because he was a real flea magnet, but we got on top of that right away, too. Other than those tiny, fixable things, he’s really good…and so very well-mannered! You were right…he’s just a cool little dog. Exactly what we were looking for."

THANK YOU!!!!

Cheers, Jennifer, Tom, & Louie “The Chin” Fourpaws

Hi Joe!

Here's a nice family picture--we went to Lake Martin, Alabama this weekend to celebrate Steve's grand-dad's 80th birthday. Ruby was an excellent little traveler in the car. She stayed on the floor by my
feet and slept the whole way. She was a big hit with the whole family, and came out of her timid little shell a LOT.

She played with toys, went on walks, ran crazy circles around the yard, and even went on a
boat ride! Don't worry, she has a doggie life jacket. :) We love our girl so, so much and are having the best time with her. She's got this hilarious habit of sucking on her blankie before she falls asleep. She
sounds like a little pig.

Have a great Memorial Day!

Abby, Steve, and Ruby

A couple new pics today of Izzy and Mabel Dodge.   They've moved to their new house and everybody's getting settled in.
