Some common sense on treating Canine Diabetes from Kurt

(His Boston son Oreo Cookie is diabetic and doing very well)

There are plenty of places on the internet that can sell you Vetsulin cheaper than your vet. Only downside it has to be shipped overnight in a cold pack so they'll need to buy in bulk, at least 3 or 4 bottles before you see any savings over the vets. Keep in mind 3 or 4 trips to the vet is also money and time..

Here is one place that has it currently listed for under $30. It's been creeping up about a $1.50 a year. Last time I got it from my vet it was $43.

 Vetsulin: $27.99

 Syringes:

The ShopMedVet site is really hard to find the right syringe for Vetsulin, and the correct syringe is a MUST.. Best bet is to call them and get part numbers for the different options, they have several depending on packaging and quality desired. Great customer support as well..

As for food, for the first year or so most go with the recommended Hills Science Diet W/D which is pretty expensive or the Purina special diet for diabetic and overweight dogs. Sometimes you can put them on Purina Beneful Healthy-Weight which is their high fiber food similar to the other two products. Most likely not as good as the other two but I've not seen any weight loss or excessive water consumption which would be signs that the food is increasing his blood sugar level..
